There's a lot more to a beautiful hardwood floor than putting boards on the ground.
It's the prep, the details, the installation and the finish that make the difference.
Before Your Project Begins
To reserve your project on our schedule, we require:
A signed proposal.
The required deposit.
A scheduled start date confirmed with our office.
What to Expect During Your Flooring Project
-
If your project includes the installation of new hardwood flooring, the estimator will discuss the anticipated project timeline based on the size and complexity of your home.
If you would like flush-mount wood floor vents, please notify your scheduler before work begins. These vents must be installed during the flooring installation process and should be included in your proposal. Vent inserts are finished separately and should be installed after the final finish coat has cured.
If your home has an unfinished basement beneath the work area, we recommend covering or relocating stored items, as small amounts of dust or debris may pass through gaps in the subfloor during installation.
-
Sanding and finishing typically requires three working days. On the first day, our crew will sand the floor, fill minor imperfections, perform final sanding, and prepare the floor for stain or sealer. A 220-volt electrical outlet, typically a dryer or range outlet, is required for our sanding equipment.
Stain or sealer selection and approval is required on the first day of the project before application can begin. Please plan to be available on Day 1 so our craftsmen can prepare samples for your review and approval. Sanding naturally creates some dust. We will use dust barriers where practical, but some dust migration is unavoidable; cleaning after the project is the homeowner's responsibility. After stain or sealer is applied, allow approximately 8 hours before foot traffic. Stain Sample Disclaimer: Stain samples are provided as a color guide only. Because natural wood varies in grain, color, and characteristics, the finished floor may differ from the sample. Variation is a normal and expected part of natural wood flooring.
During the following two workdays, finish coats will be applied as specified in your proposal (Unless otherwise specified, the final coat will be a satin sheen). Finish coats typically require 12–16 hours to dry, depending on conditions. Please minimize airflow and activity in the work area and do not walk on the floor until the finish is completely dry.
-
Maintenance coat projects generally require only one day, as a single finish coat is applied. For proper adhesion, existing floors must be free of waxes, oils, or other incompatible treatments. Pryor Floor cannot be responsible for adhesion issues resulting from previously applied products.
Health & Safety
Our employees may wear respirators or dust masks while working. These are standard safety precautions due to regular exposure to wood dust and finishing products. Although we provide ventilation whenever possible, we recommend that small children, pregnant individuals, pets, and anyone with respiratory conditions or chemical sensitivities remain away from the work area during sanding and finishing. Safety information for the products used on your project is available upon request.
Scheduling & Access
Because our crews often work on multiple projects each day, arrival times may vary. Our office will provide estimated arrival windows whenever possible. If you will not be home during the project, arrangements can be made for key or lockbox access. Please discuss these details when scheduling your project. All Pryor Floor work is performed by our own trained employees. Different crews may complete different phases of your project, allowing each stage to be handled by specialists.
Caring for your New Floor
Allow 4-6 hours before walking with SOCKS ONLY on floors finished with water based polyurethane (12-18 hours for floors finished with oil modified polyurethane). Normal traffic can resume in 24 hours.
Place FELT padding under table legs, sofas, chairs, etc. Rubber or plastic can leave marks in the floor.
Do not put any area rugs on the floors for at least 7 days.
Never use Murphy’s Oil, Pledge, Mop & Glo or similar products that contain wax and/or oils. These products can cause severe reactions to your floors, and then maintenance coats will not be possible. Most warranties from finish manufacturers and factory finished wood flooring manufacturers are voided by use of oil soap cleaners.
Homeowner Responsibilities
The homeowner is responsible for removing all furniture, appliances, and personal belongings from the work area before work begins.
For liability reasons, Pryor Floor employees cannot reconnect plumbing fixtures or water lines. Hardwood flooring installation and sanding are considered construction activities and may involve vibration, noise, and dust. We recommend removing or protecting: Artwork and wall décor, electronics and computers, lamps, fragile or valuable items, decorative accessories.
For everyone's safety, children and pets should be kept away from the work area throughout the duration of the project.
