Wood Grades and Species
Hardwood flooring comes in a multitude of different species and grades. Each species of wood has a variety of it's own characteristics, the different grades of wood describe the basic cosmetic characteristics of each species. Hardwood grades are an industry standard set by the National Oak Flooring Manufacturers Associations (NOFMA).
Grades
Select - Almost clear, but contains few natural characteristics such as knots and color variations.
No. 1 Common - Has a variegated appearance, light and dark colors, small knots, flags and worm holes.
No. 2 Common - Is rustic in appearance and allows for all the natural wood characteristics of the species.
